A new online project for viewing the news

I've uploaded up a new project, #e44, for viewing the news: Click Here to Enter #E44.

#E44 is a web-based program written in PHP. It uses a simple HTML to Text program to convert the NYTimes website into a new format.

#E44 reformats today's New York Times homepage using the layout conventions of the print-based New York Times from around 1860. (See here for an image of the Times from that period.) I've personalized the content to my own tastes by converting certain keywords into headings when they appear in the text. The text is not altered in any other way.

The generated page doesn't make distinctions between advertising, markup, hyperlinks and news, and offers an alternate view of today's news in the media, based on a style from a period that predates the dominance of images.

Copyright notice: The New York Times is copyrighted material. For that reason, #e44 consists entirely of a PHP program (source code here). This program does not store or otherwise reference any material on the New York Times website, and has no special knowledge of the structure or content of the New York Times site.
